Arianna E. Funk.

Handweaver, author, and teacher based in Stockholm.

I’m a weaver and a textile artist exploring the body’s everyday relationship with textiles, grounded in “working textiles” and traditional weaving. I’m interested in textiles’ ability to describe their own genesis, whether they can describe a process. The starting point is always the unique attributes of a certain weaving technique: paying tribute, exploring a reason for being. My work is soft sculpture in simple, traditional techniques and color studies in the knotted techniques of flossa and rya, and increasingly, it’s both.

My work is represented in the collections of Fiberspace Gallery and Gävle Kommun, as well as private collections.

I am a founding member of the award-winning weaving collective Studio Supersju, an weaving group established in 2016. Together we have exhibited at a number of galleries and other spaces, including Konsthantverkarna, Västernorrlands Museum, and Malmstenbutiken. The last two years, our group work has focused on public art works for a care facility in Örebro, a performance space in Bergsslagen, and most recently a monumental piece for Stockholm City Hall. The book of weaving patterns I’ve written with Miriam Parkman, Att Väva, was released in Swedish in March 2020. Read more about it here. Available in English from Trafalgar Square.

I’ve also begun a career as a niche translator of craft- and art-focused writing from Swedish to English. Read more here.
